Custom design for a bathroom

Concrete is huge at the moment and it's easy to get the look with the right plaster.

One of our recent projects was this very stylish and modern bathroom. The client wanted something special for the TV wall. I used a Marmorino plaster with a lot of aggregate to give us a textured and yet smooth finish. She was looking for a Wow! statement so I designed and cut a stencil and created a column of copper metallic flames.

The great thing about working with a  Specialist Decorator, you can create a unique look for your home.
Coming soon is the fireplace I created with a similar plaster

Sparkling glass adds glamour to your decor

Working on glass is one of my favourite things to do. It has a special, magical quality that adds a unique,
custom look to your decor.

Mirrored splashback

Here, the client wanted a distressed mirrored splashback to bring light into her kitchen. Using real sliver leaf on tempered glass, I created a mirrored finish then distressed the silver leaf. Rather than use dark backing paint to create the look of old mirror, I backed the silver with imitation gold leaf, creating the finish desired by the client.
The technique is done on the back of the glass and is seen through the glass. This creates a seamless splashback that is easy to clean.

Bathroom shelf

Glaze, mica, glitter and paint combines to deliver a truly unique finish on this previously boring frosted glass shelf in a recent bathroom makeover.

From blah to stunning, a kitchen gets a makeover

A kitchen should be the centre of your home. We spend so much time there it needs to work on many levels. Function is so important and so is the look. If your kitchen has a good layout and the cabinets are sound, then maybe all it needs is updating with a great paint job, some new tiles and a little tweaking here and there.

This Ikea kitchen in a fabulous York apartment overlooking the river, has marble and butcher block counters and yet both were virtually unnoticeable. I worked with Spice Interior Design to update this kitchen. We painted it a fabulous teal colour, tiled the splashback and added aluminium kick plates to the Island.  Moving the microwave from a high, inaccessible location we then had a carpenter make a new door for the space above the oven. LED under cabinet lighting added great functionality to the back counters. Now the marble and butcherblock counters stand out, as they should.

Sleek, beautiful and modern as befits this City centre apartment.

Creating usable space

I am very excited to have been invited to work on a fabulous Victorian Vicarage. There is a lot of work to do, including a kitchen extension but first things, first! The basement! As it stood, it was an unusable space, dank and dirty, it could not be used in any way.
A local company did a great job of tanking the basement, taking down walls and fitting out.

The Client decided to keep some of the exposed brick and the stone shelves in what would become the wine cellar. The brick, shelves and stone steps were cleaned and sealed.

We talked about colour for the rooms and as there was no natural light at all, I explained they could have any colour they wanted as it would always be seen in artificial light. We picked a beautiful, rich Burgundy for the walls  and a Light Grey for the ceiling, woodwork and the walls behind the wine racks.

The staircase entry is now bright and clean. Sealing the brick and stone steps is controlling the dust and has made then cleanable.

The Burgundy walls enhance the wooden floor and the light grey ceiling creates a feeling of height and openness.

The wine cellar is filling up nicely!

The Client is delighted to now have a warm, comfortable space to use as a Theatre Room with the added bonus of a dedicated wine cellar. It has also made a difference to the temperature of the rooms immediately above.

Living Room Makeover

The end of the old year is always a good time to think about a new look. This client wanted that for her living room. The existing decor was nice and had been well thought out but it had been this way for quite a long time. She wanted to utilise the dining area as living space as the family uses the Breakfast Room for meals. It was decided to remove the fireplace and the dado rail.

The wallpaper was removed and the walls re-plastered. The ceiling was in bad shape but luckily, smooth not textured, so we repaired it and it was decided designs would be painted  around the light fixtures to give them a little more impact.
The client's husband was a little taken aback by the yellow colour but that is a common reaction when there is nothing else to look at in the room. If you ever decide on a focal wall and feel a little worried it is too much, always wait until the rest of the room is complete before making a final decision.

Anyone who knows my work will know I am a big advocate of painting ceilings, either with a colour or a design. We're not talking the Sistine Chapel here but even when the ceiling is at normal height, a subtle design can be really effective.

Hi, my name is Lesley Anne and I recently returned to the UK after 16 years in the USA. The UK has changed a lot in that time and I am still getting used to things. Two sons, one 40 years old and one 18 and yes you're right, I must be crazy! I'm an artist/decorator by profession and I feel lucky that I can earn my living doing something I love.

Nothing is safe from my paintbrush!
