The end of the old year is always a good time to think about a new look.
This client wanted that for her living room. The existing decor was
nice and had been well thought out but it had been this way for quite a
long time. She wanted to utilise the dining area as living space as the
family uses the Breakfast Room for meals. It was decided to remove the
fireplace and the dado rail.
The wallpaper was removed and the walls re-plastered. The ceiling was in
bad shape but luckily, smooth not textured, so we repaired it and it was
decided designs would be painted around the light fixtures to give
them a little more impact. The client's husband was a little taken
aback by the yellow colour but that is a common reaction when there is
nothing else to look at in the room. If you ever decide on a focal wall
and feel a little worried it is too much, always wait until the rest of the room is
complete before making a final decision.
Anyone who knows my work will know I am a big advocate of painting ceilings, either with a colour or a design. We're not talking the Sistine Chapel here but even when the ceiling is at normal height, a subtle design can be really effective.
